After very challenging times for the entire food industry, the MICHELIN Guide is delighted to announce its 2021 selection for the Nordic Countries which will be presented on September 13th. For the first time ever, the new MICHELIN Stars and MICHELIN Green Stars will be revealed during a TV show produced from Stavanger Concert Hall by the TV channel Matkanalen and broadcasted at 8pm (local time) in Norway and Sweden. To give everyone the opportunity to follow the celebration, the show will also be available on VG, Aftonbladet and social media such as the MICHELIN Guide YouTube Channel.

– When times finally seem to be getting brighter for the food industry, with chefs being able to welcome their guests and foodies returning to restaurants, we are delighted to invite everyone to discover the new vintage of the MICHELIN Guide Nordic Countries during an exceptional TV show. Stavanger will become the gastronomic lighthouse of the Nordic countries for one evening, and we will highlight the talent, creativity but also resilience of an entire profession that never ceases to impress us all, says Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide.

The TV show, which will be one hour long, will be presented by Line Verndal, a famous Norwegian actress. Verndal received in 2011 “The Amanda Award” as best actress in the feature film Limbo and has been nominated three times for Gullruten as best actress in the TV series Himmelblå. Verndal has also been TV hostess for many food-related programs and documentaries and is currently hosting her own podcast alongside continuing her actress career.

The TV show will present the new MICHELIN Starred restaurants and highlight the sustainable commitments of the new MICHELIN Green Star restaurants to be discovered at the same time. Special MICHELIN Awards will celebrate the outstanding know-how of young talents as well as other professionals involved in the gastronomic experience. Special focuses on Nordic products will also celebrate the richness and diversity of local food scenes.

– We are really looking forward to producing and broadcasting this year’s Nordic Star Revelation for the first time. The interest in MICHELIN Star restaurants is high, and ever-increasing accordingly with the food interest in our region. Being the Scandinavian Food Channel, commits us to follow this with argus eyes for our audience, says Øivind Lindøe, CEO of Matkanalen.

– Being host and partner of the MICHELIN Guide is a great occasion for both the region of Stavanger and Rogaland to highlight the wonderful culinary and gastronomic potential of our territories. We have fantastic restaurants with some of Norway’s best chefs and a region with a delicious selection of sought-after ingredients. Therefore, with the MICHELIN Guide’s attention, we are once again establishing ourselves as a very exciting destination for dining experiences. We are looking forward to the launch of the ceremony of the MICHELIN Guide Nordic Countries, an event which gives Nordic gastronomy well-earned international attention says director of tourism Elisabeth Saupstad in Visit Region Stavanger.

– We are so proud that the MICHELIN Star Revelation for the Nordic Countries takes place in Stavanger. Being the host city for this ceremony means a great opportunity for the city and the region. As a large agricultural and aquaculture municipality, this will contribute to showcasing the fantastic local produce, the restaurants, the talented chefs and the restaurant staff that we have here in the Stavanger region. We are very much looking forward to the event, which this year will be digital in form of a fantastic TV show sent live from the Stavanger Concert Hall, says Mayor of Stavanger, Kari Nessa Nordtun.
